My research and professional interests focus on supporting classroom teachers and informal educators in using outdoor spaces and socio-environmental issues to engage youth in science learning. I am a faculty member in the School of Teacher Education at SDSU and teach courses in science teaching and learning in our credential programs, masters and doctoral programs. I work closely with educators across classroom and informal learning spaces to develop professional learning opportunities, including leading informal educators in learning about NGSS as they redesign their school-based programs, and conducing research in Noyce master teachers’ classrooms around supporting English learners as they work to understand rich science phenomena. My research expertise background is largely qualitative, relying heavily on video-based analysis of practice and case study research.
