Southern California's physical environment presents many challenges for a growing population, having both fantastic qualities and potentially terrifying results from natural events without planning ahead. This presentation is a brief overview of highlights of California’s amazing geologic features and environments, and presents information that are of perhaps most concerning to scientist regarding preparing an a educated citizenry for potentially subtle and catastrophic changes that may happen in our future. Planting geologic information in the minds of children is the most effective means of preparing families for both potential disasters and getting everyone interested and ready for great outdoor vacations.
